The Kitchen Couple

Christopher Laramie: The savory half of the culinary duo

Christopher Laramie was born in Englewood, CO but grew up in Fort Collins. His love of food was more born out of impatience at dinner time more than anything else. Since he was a young child and couldn’t wait to eat he was sometimes allowed to help mom out in the kitchen. Christopher’s only job all through high school and college was in restaurant kitchens; though it was never considered a career choice. While attending the University of Colorado, Christopher work his way through many of the kitchens in Boulder, but spent his last two years at The Flagstaff House. It was here that he fell in love with food and decided to go to France to see firsthand the birth place of gastronomy. Christopher graduated with a Grande Diplôme in Cuisine and Pastry from Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, and continued his studies with an internship at Georges Blanc, a Three Star *** Michelin near Lyon, France. He got his first break as a chef when he became the Chef de Cuisine at South Beach’s uber-posh Blue Door restaurant located in the historic Delano Hotel. From here he and his wife moved to Chicago where Christopher landed the Executive Sous Chef position at Everest, a Relias & Chateaux property. Here he stayed for a few years but the bustle of the big city waned and home was calling. After a few years in Colorado he came to a stark realization that he ultimately knew was true, Coloradans love their steak and would much rather pay $30 or $40 for it rather than a multi-course tasting menu; Colorado just wasn’t ready for the kind of cuisine that really turned this chef on. In search of a new environment where diners are “foodies” he and his wife settled on the Bay Area calling Berkeley home and the new location for their first restaurant. Here Chris and Veronica opened eVe in December of 2009 and have had amazing success developing a local following doing the food that they love.

Veronica Laramie: The sweet half of the culinary duo

Pastry Chef Veronica Laramie was born and raised in Lima, Peru. A recent transplant to Berkeley, CA she came by way of a chance encounter with a Coloradan while attending school at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, France. In 2003 she moved to France to attend Le Cordon Bleu and graduated with Grand Diplome in both Cuisine and Pastry. Things progressed nicely with her "Gringo" and soon after graduation they relocated to Miami, Florida and got married. It was in Miami that she quickly moved up through kitchens to take lead positions. In two fast paced years she went from being an unpaid intern at Mark's South Beach to being the Pastry Chef at Wish Restaurant located in "The Hotel" of South Beach. After a couple of years of humidity and hurricanes it was time for a change of scenery. Veronica and her husband relocated to Chicago in search of the best kitchens in the world. Chef Veroinca having missed a phone call from Charlie Trotter's was not discouraged; she knocked on the back door, asked for an interview and was hired. Two years later when Veronica left Charlie Trotter's she was the #2 on the pastry team and had worked with some of the most famous chef's of our time. Chef Veronica and her husband moved to Colorado in 2007, there she worked as the Pastry Chef at Q's Restaurant in the Hotel Boulderado. Her love of pastry extends far beyond the professional kitchens she has worked in; when the IACP held their 2009 conference in Denver she did simultaneous translation for Chef Andoni Luis Aduriz during his demonstration. In December 0f 2009 she opened her first restaurant with her husband Chris in Berkeley, CA
